The 6th Saying:"It is Finished"...for who? Christ is "just warmin' up'...

This saying of Christ Jesus while He hung upon the Cross for all of mankind, was the beginning...not the ending... as I reflect and give honor to the King.
Today, we use a phrase in life when we have had a rough go of it for a while, but all of a sudden there is hope, and we say: "The tide is about to change", or another phrase is: "I see light at the end of this tunnel."

Well, in my thought, this is where what had happened to Christ Jesus at the Cross....is about to get a whole lot better!
First, when Christ uttered His famous 3 words out of John 19:30: "It is finished!", my first thoughts are: "Who was He talking to...at that point?"
We know His mind was perfectly clear, which was amazing in itself considering the merciless beating He had endured, and the horrendous physical suffering He endured being nailed to a wooden cross. And the fact He had refused the first drink offered Him while on the Cross itself, which was laced with a strong painkiller type effect. Christ Jesus, through all this, still had control of his senses, and unlike most deaths where a person simply weakens....and passes, His ending...His final shouts....were ones of strength!... just the beginning. Another phrase we use in our area: "He was just warmin' up!"

                                           "It is Finished!"

In Greek, the word is "Tetelestai", and various historical sources report it is a word used during biblical times that were found on receipts, like tax receipts, made out of papyri. It is simply translated: "Paid in full".
For me, I think Jesus, who now was exhibiting a little more vibrant strength as His physical body neared death, in fact according to Scripture He was able to "shout."
Now, my question remains "Who was He shouting to?".... personally, I think He was making His first "public announcement", since the trial had begun. The trial announced "He was guilty", Jesus, who had remained quiet during the whole ordeal...now decides this is the right time to speak in reference to all the charges that had been brought before Him....and I love this!
His announcement: "It is finished!", or to put it in a more modern day lingo: "It's Over! Now, this is My time! " Jesus is making an appeal to all the false charges, and it will be brought into a higher court of justice...the "Supreme Court" of all time...and this judge is not influenced by any "low-life" bribes or "skanky false witnesses". In fact, I wouldn't even think about it...it would probably be much better to drop any charges you have against Jesus...and ask for mercy. I think if anyone tries to "make a run for it" in this Court of Justice....honestly, it is not a good idea...

"It is Finished!"...has echoed down through the ages...and will continue...through all eternity!
Still, "Who was He shouting to?" My thoughts?...He was making it clear to every demon in hell who had been invited for  this historic event, with Satan himself in attendance...but, I don't think the ending was quite what they thought. When Christ Jesus shouted these words,"It is Finished", I think there was a "mass exodus" out of this setting...in fact...you talk about running for their lives...and Jesus was about to knock on their doors...well, knock down their doors...He was coming! Even Death could not contain Him...and when the demons heard Death "went down"( Jesus gave His life up...Death could not simply "take it"), reality was beginning to "hit", it was going to be a "long 3 days".
I think if we would follow Christ Jesus train of thought at this juncture, it sheds "a new light" on Matthew 16:18:" And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell can not hold it back!" You see, we are not the ones having to shut the gates and hold hell back...it's the other way around....hell has closed her gates...and led by our Lord Jesus, the demons and all their evil....they are the ones...holding us back!

jesus tempted                       "It is Finished".....I love this phrase...and it was all made possible..
                                                                           because of Him!
