In this Proverb, Solomon is concluding sharing his various experiences in life. He has been sharing this wisdom with his son to give him some "tools" as he approached adult life. Solomon is hoping here that his son would use these instructions to recognize the difference between good and bad behavior.
The sad part about Proverbs 9 is the hidden story on Solomon and how he had drifted away from the words of Lady Wisdom.
Solomon had been a wise king for the most part of his life, yet in his old age he forgets or even neglects Lady Wisdom and yields himself to another form of lifestyle. Solomon in his old age had attained many wives, and with his wives came other gods. Solomon ended up serving other gods, false gods...most likely to keep all his women "happy".
The son Solomon is directing Proverbs 1-9 to is Rehoboam. He did become king after Solomon's passing, but never chose to follow the path of Lady Wisdom. In fact, the first decision he made after becoming king was to...refuse Lady Wisdom! From this horrific decision, the reign of Rehoboam was a rocky one on its best day. The people of Israel did not want to serve or support him, and then Israel went to war...between themselves...and Israel became 2 nations within itself.
So, what then are the primary differences between King Solomon and his son, Rehoboam? Well, look at it this way: Solomon had a great nation and was always in a state of peace... Rehoboam ended with a much smaller nation...and he was always in a state of war.
One more thing to share: Wisdom in the Proverbs is viewed as a woman. Relating God's Wisdom from a feminine perspective creates a picture of caring...like a mother caring for her children. And, just like in real life, when a child does not listen to the words of his Mom, he could put himself in danger.
Proverbs 9 is the last time you will read of Proverbs where Lady Wisdom is "crying out". Oh, and in this chapter there is a 2nd woman "crying out"....and she has no clue as to who our beloved Lady Wisdom is....

" Lady Wisdom has built her home, carved and supported by 7 magnificent foundational pillars.
Now, she has even prepared a banquet for the her home celebration. the meat she has chosen and the wines she has selected have all been marinated in His Mighty Commands! Even now she is sending out her attendants to make the grand announcement: "All are Welcome!"
In fact, Lady Wisdom herself has come to town, to the city square, and is standing in a prominent location. She declares: " To anyone who is confused in life...you may not understand what is happening to you...come...come to the great banquet that is about to take place....within the atmosphere of my own home! To those of you who feel foolish about life...or perhaps you have come to the point where you recognize your own ignorance...I bid you...come, come to the banquet I have prepared for you...in my own home! You will learn about life...and I will teach you...and give your life meaning!"
Now, listen up as I share with you some other valuable lessons I have learned about life. First, don't waste your time with an arrogant bragger, the only feedback you will get from people like that are insults..."thrown back in you own face."
Here is another thing: don't try to correct someone who gets their "kicks" from making fun of others...doing so brings you nothing in return but pain and abuse.
On the other hand, giving aid and correction to someone who cares about life...like someone who has a little common sense, will love you for it! People like that appreciate the words of Lady Wisdom and sharing this wisdom brings joy to the hearts of anyone who listen...and besides, everyone "profits" from her words.
Lady wisdom has made this abundantly clear: the foundation of all her wisdom begins here: Respect and Obey the Word of God. Gaining knowledge and wisdom from the Holy One allows your life to deepen and the years of your life to ripen.
You see, living wisely...according to His Mighty Commands, will bring self-benefits as well. The wisdom offered by this Lady will permeate into every area of your very life!
Now remember, how you treat this Lady can bring positive or negative results. If you scorn her words that come directly from Him, or make fun of the lifestyles He has declared from His Mighty Commands...those very words of mockery that come from your very lips will boomerang...right back to you!
Something else you will need to be aware of: there is another "Lady", and she makes boastful claims...in fact she goes by various aliases: Madame Folly, Madame Reckless, Madame Foolish, or Madame Whore".
This woman is brash, stupid, ignorant, reckless, and open to all forms...of evil. The ironic part of her is...she doesn't even know it at times...just stay clear of her!
She too will make her way to the city square, and make announcements as people are walking by, people just going about minding their own business.
AND...she tries to imitate Lady Wisdom saying:
" Are you confused about life...can't figure out what is happening...or why things are happening to you? Come on in, I have a home...don't worry...no one will see you come in. Trust me, no one will ever know you were even here, while we spend time with each other. Look, I have a meal for you as well...and it is ready...right now! I stole it all myself. Just taste some of this stolen water (pleasures in life), is that good or what?!!...Doesn't it taste sweet?!
I think I know why it is soooo good! You see, the Holy One has forbidden it to you....and I think that is because He wanted it all for Himself. But now, we can drink some of His "Forbidden Drink"...and enjoy life. Same thing with the food I stole. It tastes great as well. And we will enjoy ourselves right here, in the privacy of my own home...no one will ever know!
Oh, don't open that door...that is my closet...open that and you will be buried in dead men's bones...sometimes things just don't work out the way I plan...but you?..you'll be ok!"
You see my son, little do these ignorant fools know that when they eat and drink from this evil imposture...they are signing their own Death Certificate...in fact, Hell is opening their doors right now...as they sip and take their first bite....
