A Few Things God Can Not Do......

There are a few things God can not do:

1. He can not lie: This is a big one. We have all been guilty of lying...at one time or another. We lie to others, we lie to ourselves, we tell"white lies", we tell "big lies"...we just...lie. Yet, God cannot...He cannot lie. It is totally against His nature...He just cannot nor will He.
So, when He makes a promise...or a vow...it has to be true...there is no way He can get around it...He will honor every word of that promise...His oath....

The Book of Hebrews in the New Testament makes mention of a vow that God Himself has made. Hebrews, many say Saint Paul wrote this book...yet there are a number of passages in Hebrews that do not have that "Pauline style" type of writing. Saint Clement of Rome makes mention of this letter to the Hebrews...in 96 A.D.....

3 words I take note of when reading this Book of Hebrews:
1) Vow: meaning a solemn promise that can include a sacrifice to complete.
2) Hope: meaning a trust, a complete and confident trust based on this premise; the fulfillment of a vow or promise that was given.
3) anchor: meaning a reliable support or fixed object used to keep things steady until the destination...the hope...a vow...is secured.

                A Gleaning from Hebrews 6:13-18

" In Ancient Days, God made a promise. This is important to notice because...there is no one greater than...God. In fact, He made a "vow"...yet because of His greatness...who could possibly stand up and affirm this vow God had decided to make...to Abraham?
The fact is...there is no one. So, God, who was intent to get this promise...this vow to Abraham...affirmed the vow...by His own Name! God in fact made this oath...to His very Self..because He was so committed to fulfilling a promise He wanted Abraham to have!

And what was this promise?...what was it that God was so intense about that He was willing to make an oath...a vow...to Abraham...something that obviously had "heart-rendering" depths of God's immense feelings toward Abraham.
Then it came... God spoke and declared this oath to Abraham: " My Promise to you is this: I will bless you!...and I will continue to bless you! I will cause you to have many descendants...and all of them will have My Blessings as well!"

Now...enter Hope...the "Hope of Abraham"! You see, patience was required by Abraham to watch and see God's very oath to him was fulfilled. And God gave Abraham patience, and Abraham anchored himself in this Hope...the Hope of God's very Promise to him...would certainly reach its destination...and find its fulfillment!
When a person like one of us makes a promise to another...the custom is to call on someone...usually of greater authority...to confirm and hold the person to the vow they have chosen to do. When the oath is formalized...made "official"...it becomes binding...a rock-hard guarantee!
So when God made this oath...He called upon Himself...the qualities He upholds and lives...and made this His rock-hard guarantee that His promise to Abraham would be fulfilled...completed...and swore to it by His Name...His very Nature...God being God!

Why? Well, there are 2 things God has taught us about Himself:
1) God cannot deceive...it is impossible for Him to lie to us. His own nature...the nature of His personality will not allow it....He can only be...who He is!
2 Anyone who seeks His refuge in their lives...are able to have it...because of this promise He declared to Abraham. Those who receive this promise...just like Abraham...will find the comfort and safety needed...in the original promise. In His promise we will have an indwelling strength...we find encouragement in our daily lives...and we can hold on to this promise given to Abraham with great hope and confidence...because we now know...of its destination...to be alive in Him!
How?...you might ask. Because we are...the descendants of Abraham!...and the promise He gave to Abraham...has been passed on to us! How?...you might ask again...because God sacrificed His own Son...for us...so this very oath would be available to us! Praise be...to the Lord Jesus Christ!"
