"There is an appointed time...for everything,
A time for every affair to follow its course,
And find its completion...under the heavens."
Our lives seem to reflect the seasons of nature. At times our lives are warm and sunny, while other times bring in strong winter winds and a feeling of emptiness. We have those "magical moments" and we have "crosses" we contend with. With the numerous choices we make in our daily lives, there are results or sometimes consequences that come with those choices. If we choose to give comfort to one who is desperate, compassion has a way of arriving at our own "doorstep", giving us strength in our time of need. If we choose to ignore others, life has a way of ignoring us.
In the Sacred Scriptures, Solomon makes some interesting remarks in regards to how life works, expanding on this subject in Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
Here in the beginning verses of the chapter Solomon seems to offer a purpose in life for each situation we may encounter. An example of that would be: " Today we may weep on the loss of a loved one, yet tomorrow rejoice over the joy of a new birth."
Solomon gives to us a solemn reminder we don't control Father Time, but we can control how we use our own time. For some of us... it is a time to "let go of the old...and step into the new."
And yet in the midst of thinking over what our lives are all about...you know the "why am I here?" stuff and "what purpose do I serve?", other things seem to "make some noise".
We live in a day of automation..."I want it and I want it now" generation.
It's getting a little crazy...at least to me. For example, I have an application available on my cell phone called "Textwalk". Since texting is so popular and everyone is doin' it, it seems people are now running into to things while walking and texting. So, "Textwalk" solves all that. It works like a camera and allows you to see where you are walking and what objects or people might be in your path...while you are texting. Personally, I wouldn't benefit from such a program simply because multi-tasking isn't one of my "power points" (lol).
The day of automation doesn't recognize "seasons in our lives". Automation declares: " we do all things...and we do all things...now!"
Even in the "Christian world", you sometimes hear a similar "chant". Using the Sacred Scripture, an announcement is heard: " I call those things that be not as though they already were", from Romans 4:17. Now, first I would like to make it abundantly clear there are some who have stood by faith on this verse of Scripture and some wonderful things have happened in their lives...I'm not referring to those situations.
Rather, it is listening to those who simply take this verse of Scripture and turn it into a formula...confess it, repeat it, believe it...and "presto"...it is "yours". I don't totally disagree with the concept, but the presentation is often shallow and leaves many clinging to false hopes and some have completely turned away from the faith...because "calling those things that be not as though they already were"....never came.
Why?
I think faith certainly does include "calling those things that be not as though they already were", yet, I do think there is a season appointed for all things to take place in our lives.
I personally think that "when you know something is right...and your inner faith is telling you to believe in that"...then we attained 1/2 of the equation.
The other 1/2?...which I have found to be equally important: "it is only right when we do it or it arrives in our lives...at the right time."
So, what do we do?
Preparation. That's a "bad word" in our day of automation. It demands work, patience, and a "season of building". For a Christian, I simply thinks it means spending time...with Him.
The "Jewel of a Christian" is not just seeing things happen in our lives...those things are all well and good, and certainly have benefits to our daily lives. Yet, "one statement wonders" cannot replace what being a Christian is all about....getting to know Him...more and more.
Setting aside time, regardless of what season in life we may be in...is essential to allowing God have purpose in our lives. Praying, meditating, and keeping in mind the needs of others...coupled with patience and trust...can bring life into our lives...and things that were not even in existence...begin to appear....
Then, you can declare from your own heart: "This is...Our Time!"
A Gleaning from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
" There is an appointed time for everything,
A time for every affair under the heavens.
A time where everything has its own season.
There is a right time for birth,
And yet another time which brings with it Death.
There is a right time to plant,
And yet another time to bring harvest
To the things that were planted.
There are times necessary to declare war...and a time to kill
While another time brings the "warm winds of healing."
There are times that things once built in honor and glory,
Now demands a time to tear down,
Yet another time declares it is the season to make new and build.
There is a right time to weep, to mourn, and to cry,
And yet there is a time appointed to laugh and dance...once more.
There is a time designated to extend our love and "cheer on" those around us,
And there are times we are to remain quiet.
There is a time to embrace life...and others as well
And other times we simply refrain.
There is a time life demands we search and look at details,
And yet another time to bring your search to a close,
And allow the season of rest to arrive...and enjoy the serenity of her strength.
There are times we must hold on...and cling to life with all our strength
And there is a season designated...to simply "let go".
There is a time to "rip out" what has been sewn,
And yet another time to sew what has been "ripped out."
There is a time to simply listen,
And yet another time to speak...from the softness of the heart,
Or the firmness of our disciplines in life.
There is a time to emanate our emotions and passions of life,
And another time to not allow our emotions dictate our decisions in life.
Finally, there is a time to declare War,
And yet another time to promote....Peace.
A time for every affair to follow its course,
And find its completion...under the heavens."
