The Ballad of a Narcissist

The pain goes back a ways,'
A little girl trapped in neglect.
Finding a way out,
She refused to look back.

After all, it wasn't her fault
Her sibling wrapped in so much protection.
Reality hurts the wish to be wanted,
Painful emotions wrapped in feelings of rejection.

She must create a coping mechanism.
Decisions as to what is real and what is not,
Don't they know she needed protection,
Or had they simply forgot?

Delusion, a process of internal thoughts,
Lying and denial are part of the game.
Others caused this intense pain,
An innocent victim, she calmly explained.

Pretending to be confident
Her thoughts focused on one thing,
She needs validation,
Who cares about right from wrong.

It's not about resolve, introspection is fake.
The bright color of lime green,
And big earrings cheaply made.
Attention will crown her and make her a queen.

Look fancy, get all their money,
Associate with those who deserve respect.
Imitate those of status and power,
No one really knows, she lives in a trailer.

The public sing of her fame in song,
"The sweetest lady the world has ever known."
But don't get too close, the rules never change,
She is the innocent victim, you are to blame.

She took care of her sister, the one "Daddy" loved.
One day she found her lying on the floor,
Her ankle broke and swollen severely,
"No, don't call." An ambulance would cost dearly.

Entitlement is the name of the game,
Take all you can,
The others are to blame.
No thought given...to what might have been.

Now she is old
Totally alone.
Doesn't know why
No calls on her phone.
