Chapter Two
I saw an old Christmas sweater tucked away in a cubby hole in the corner of the bed. As I finished wiping the kitten off, I noticed the it was actually a girl.
I spread the left sleeve hole open a little and gently pushed her in. I had barely removed my hand when she disappeared. She'd submerged into the warmth of the woven yarn, managed to turn around, and poke her head out the cuff.
She glanced up at me rather timidly, then submerged back into the darkness. I heard the bell ring signifying break was over while I stood gazing at my new friend, half-soaked from the rain. I saw a half-empty water bottle next to a bag designated for Goodwill, grabbed it, and poured a little water into a discarded plastic fruit cup, and quietly shut the lid. I heard what sounded like a truck engine pull up beside me.
"Hi. Shaney. What's ya' doin'?" It was the "blow-job" twins in their humongous hummer. Well, they really weren't twins. They'd hit the jackpot a while back when they met some old guy on Sugardaddy.com. He died shortly after and left them a brand spankin' new hummer, loaded to the max.
"Hey, how about a blue-light special, big boy? You look a little cold, standin' in the rain and all. Tell ya' what, it's a slow night. We'll make it a two for one." They held their hands up and made the Boy Scout's honor sign, only to drop two fingers and leave the middle finger erect.
I looked at them and smiled, "Thanks, but I'm afraid it would take more than you two to handle this lizard." I proceeded to tell them about the kitten I'd found and asked if they'd like to see it. "No, we're all warm and dry." I ran around and jumped in my pick-up. The twins waved and tore out like a bat out of hell.
When I got home from work that night, the little, black kitty was sleeping in the sleeve of the sweater. I decided to try and take her to the vet the next morning to get her shots and stuff.
Holy shit! I got to call in and let them know why I didn't return after lunch break. I'd had a family emergency.
